Small Town Heart

Small Town Heart

Small Town Heart

Most of you know by now that I’m a small town girl, and I love it. Small towns have that special something that you can’t find anywhere else no matter how hard you look. It’s something that can’t be manufactured or made up.

What is this special something? It’s hard to put into words, but I would say that it’s heart. It’s love for each other. It’s caring about your neighbors even if you don’t know them yet. It’s feeling safe because you know that your neighbors are watching out for you. It’s going to the local coffee shop or bar and sitting at the same table as someone else in town because the chair is empty.

Sure, some of these things can happen within neighborhoods in big cities, but there’s a certain vibe to a small town that can’t be put into words. It’s special and something to be treasured.

I was reminded of this today when I needed sustenance. I’ve been busy trying to clean and organize my house and frankly it’s exhausting and overwhelming. Today was my day to write, but after setting up my new monitor and cleaning my desk my headache from this morning came back with a vengeance.

I texted my dad and asked for a big favor. I needed coffee, stat! And maybe a grilled cheese and ham sandwich. My parents live about three miles from me so it wasn’t long before my dad was at my door with goodies from our local coffee shop. Not only did he bring coffee and grilled cheese, he brought tomato soup to go with it. Best dad ever!

Now, I have to mention that by this time it was mid afternoon. Of course Stephanie, the manager of the coffee shop, wanted to know why I needed coffee this late in the day. Dad told her I needed writing fuel and the small town gossip was complete.

As dad was telling me this he turned the coffee cup so that I could see the other side. Written on the side of the cup was, “Happy Writing -Steph”. And this is why I love small towns. Places where local gossip and small talk turns into blessings – and a blog post!

So today I would like to say Thank You! to my dad and to my friend Steph at Knapp, Stout, & Company Coffee House. You both made my writing happier today 🙂

If you’re ever in western Wisconsin stop by K&S coffee shop and say “Hi” to some wonderful people. You can even purchase my photography there, because small towns are all about helping each other out!

If we practice it enough, maybe small town heart can travel with us wherever we go. So let’s all try to be a little more “small town” wherever we live. Let’s look out for one another, show some love, and do our part to make this world a better place.

And that, my friends, is how I captured Small Town Heart. (Click to Tweet!)

Until next time,

Josie

Josie, Okay, first of all, your dad is AWESOME! Secondly, while reading this post, the John Cougar Mellencamp song Small Town was playing in my head. So, this is for you….
