A Regular Visitor

The first summer after I moved into the house in the country I planted a bunch of zinnias. It didn’t take long for them to become one of my favorite flowers. They are such happy little flowers and the butterflies and bees love them!

I can’t say that I ever remember seeing a giant swallowtail where I live before, but that summer they were abundant in the tiny box of full of zinnias in my back yard. I lost count of the number of times I found myself, camera in hand, next to that box of beauties attempting to capture a swallowtail.

Even though the giants were abundant they were flighty, as most butterflies are. One lovely summer day I saw a familiar yellow blur streak past my window. I grabbed my camera and headed out to the zinnia box.

I worked my way to the box slowly, trying to be invisible. Pretty soon the giant swallowtail made a landing on a pretty pink zinnia and posed for me as I snapped away. I planted zinnias once again this summer and they’re slowly growing. I can’t wait until they bloom and I hope the butterflies will be back. Keep an eye on my Facebook Page and Instagram for photos!

And that, my friends, is the story of how I finally captured A Regular Visitor. Click to Tweet.

Until we meet again,

Josie
